The Future of IoT

The Internet of Things is changing our lives in ways we don’t even realise.

According to Norton, by 2025 there will be more than 21 billion IoT devices. The introduction of the faster 5G network will speed up how our IoT devices analyse our data and since machine learning AI knows more about you the more you use it, this network speed is a game changer. However, Norton also acknowledges that 5G brings more privacy concerns as devices can connect straight to the network rather than through a wifi router which leaves devices more vulnerable to being directly attacked.

The Globe and Mail have a comprehensive analysis on the IoT future that I highly recommend reading and they ask some critical questions about the safety of our data.

  • “Does the deeply personal information collected by your fitness tracker belong to you or to the manufacturer?” (The Globe and Mail)
  • Should law enforcement be able to access vehicle data in a criminal investigation?” (The Globe and Mail)

What are your opinions on the future of IoT and the safety of our data?
